NEW ALBUM: Busta Rhymes x J Dilla “DILLAGENCE II”

DILLAGENCE II collaborative album by Busta Rhymes and the late J Dilla. It is a sequel to their 2007 mixtape Dillagence (hosted by DJ Mick Boogie). J Dilla produced on six of Busta’s first seven studio albums. Before his death in 2006, Dilla gave Busta a vault of more than 300 unreleased beats; most stayed unused except for a few tracks. This project draws from that archive, with approval from Dilla’s estate and his mother, Maureen “Ma Dukes” Yancey, who appears on the intro and outro. Busta adapted his approach for the beats, avoiding his signature speed-rap style because he felt Dilla’s off-grid, soulful drums didn’t call for it. Additional production credits include Karriem Riggins, Black Milk, and Kev Brown. The album runs 19 tracks and about 60 minutes. Standout guests include a posthumous D’Angelo appearance on “This Woman” (from an unfinished session Dilla and D’Angelo recorded roughly 20 years earlier; D’Angelo interpolates Sister Nancy’s “Bam Bam”). Other features include Lil Wayne, Common, Big Sean, Anderson .Paak, Ludacris, Talib Kweli, T3, and Busta’s children Cie and Trillian. The album continues Busta’s long collaboration with one of hip-hop’s most influential producers and gives listeners a substantial batch of previously unheard Dilla instrumentals.
