NEW ALBUM: Mýa “Retrospect”

The project is a joyful, nostalgic tribute to 1970s and ’80s funk, soul, and Minneapolis sound-drawing from artists like Prince, Teena Marie, Rick James, the Gap Band, and more. Mýa has described it as a “time capsule” inspired by the music of her childhood (Soul Train, roller rinks, cookouts), blending retro vibes with modern R&B and hip-hop. Production is handled primarily by Mýa herself and longtime collaborator Lamar
“MyGuyMars” Edwards, along with Michael Cox, John Groover, and Mike & Keys. Themes focus on romance, confidence, joy, and introspection (“Retrospect” nods to both retro sounds and self-reflection).
It features hip-hop collaborators like Snoop Dogg, 21 Savage, Too Short, Joyner Lucas, and others.
