NEW ALBUM: Rapsody “God Gotta Afro & Gold Hoops”

Rapsody delivered “God Gotta Afro & Gold Hoops” her fifth studio album. 16-track project running about 58 minutes, blending neo-soul, jazz rap, hip-hop, and gospel elements. Production involves heavy collaboration with Mr. Porter (Denaun Porter, formerly of D12), with parts of the album recorded in Johannesburg (the “heart” of the project) after inspiration from a trip to Ghana. The title and concept center on self-love, Black identity, spirituality, and cultural affirmation. Rapsody has explained it as a reminder to “see God in our reflection” and in all creation—inspired by hearing whitewashed American gospel on Ghanaian radio, leading to the satirical affirmation that “God gotta Afro too.” Gold hoops represent cultural heirlooms, femininity, and wholeness. The project draws on Afrofuturism, Black beauty (including hair culture), community, and personal empowerment. Additional features and collaborators mentioned by Rapsody include Malice, George Clinton, Amanda Reifer, JOJO Abot, Nomisupasta, Amber Navran, and the Karabo Ya Morena Choir.
