Hayden Panettiere, the actress known for roles in Heroes, Nashville, and the Scream franchise, has died at age 36.

Her death was confirmed on August 16β17, 2026, by her father, Skip Panettiere, in a statement shared through her representative/publicist with multiple outlets including The New York Times, CNN, BBC, Reuters, USA Today, and others. The statement read: βIt is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden. She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her β and to the millions who watched her onscreen. We ask for privacy as our family takes time to process this unimaginable loss.β


Panettiere rose to prominence as a child actor (appearing in commercials as an infant and later in films like Remember the Titans and voicing Dot in A Bugβs Life). She gained widespread recognition as Claire Bennet, the indestructible cheerleader, on NBCβs Heroes (2006β2010), and as country singer Juliette Barnes on ABCβs Nashville. She also played Kirby Reed in Scream 4 (2011) and returned for Scream VI (2023). She was a two-time Golden Globe nominee.
