NEW VIDEO: Vince Staples “White Flag”

Vince Staples dropped “White Flag” yesterday as the second single from his upcoming seventh studio album Cry Baby, due out June 5, 2026. This is his first fully independent project after leaving Def Jam, released via his Section Eight Arthouse imprint and Loma Vista Recordings. It follows the lead single “Blackberry Marmalade.”

The track has a smoother, more melodic vibe than some of his recent work — think Motown/soul-rock influences mixed with psychedelic jazz: snappy drums, a smooth bassline, soft background vocal coos, and a laid-back yet tense groove. Lyrically, it’s about exhaustion from constant fighting — whether in relationships (“love can turn to war”), community betrayal, or broader systemic struggles like police brutality and inequality. The “white flag” is both surrender and a deeper statement about fatigue with endless conflict and the systems that demand Black Americans keep fighting. The song bio notes it highlights how compassion for others drives the desire for change, but how draining that fight becomes.
