The title suggests The Fall-Off will be a double-disc project (or at leaststructured that way conceptually), and this serves as the lead single/preview. It’s an introspective, hookless track where J.Cole narrates his life story in reverse – starting from death/the end and rewinding back through fame, marriage, success, signing to Roc Nation, early struggles, all the way to birth and beyond. The production is soulful and mellow (boom-bap influenced), letting the bars breathe with elite lyricism.Accompanied by video that mirrors the reverse chronology concept.
