MILWAUKEE —
A gas station on Milwaukee’s Northwest side erupted in gunfire Monday night during a shootout leaving a 17-year-old teenage boy seriously injured in the hospital.
The shooting happened just after 11 p.m. at the Citgo Food Mart near 76th and Mill.
Exclusive surveillance video obtained by 12 News shows a white SUV pull up outside of the food mart just before 11 p.m. A person in a white hoodie walks up to the car to talk to the people inside. A few minutes later, three others wearing black hoodies come around the corner of the building to walk into the food mart. Seconds later, shots ring out from the white SUV toward the group of people.
Food Mart employee Ahmad Athar was inside the store when the shooting happened. Surveillance footage shows Athar and customers hit the floor as the gunfire shattered windows and doors.
“This shooting happens so quick, like less than 10, 15 seconds,” Athar said.
The three people in black hoodies quickly got to their feet after the shooting. Surveillance footage shows all three people holding what appear to be guns, two of them returning gunfire toward to white SUV as it peeled away. The video doesn’t show whether the two groups had any interaction before the shooting started.
Customer Shanita Smith was outside pumping gas when the shots rang out.
“For that to happen, that was crazy because I always come here and ain’t nothing ever happen like that,” Smith said.
Milwaukee police say the 17-year-old boy arrived at a local hospital by a private vehicle, where he is now in serious condition. Milwaukee Police are investigating who is responsible for the crime. They ask anyone with information to give them a call.
